or ethylenediamune tetrancetate (Type I). Dark grown Euglena and Chlorella have aldolases inhibited by p-ohloromercuribenzoa.te and ethylenediamine tetraacetate but stimulated by K4 (Type II). The red alga, Chondrus, and the golden-brown alga, Ochromonas, appear to possess both types. Bean, pea, and spinach seeds and the leaves and cotyledons of etiolated bean seedlin4s oontain a p-diloromercuribenzoate insensitive, apparently non-sulfhydryl variant of Type I. Senitivity of leaf aldolase to p-chloromercuribenzoate oocurs in etiolated bean seedlings only after an extended period of illumination. Type II aldolase activity in cell-free extraots of 4 blue-green algae has been demonstrated.

Role of Aldolase in Photosynthesis. I. Enzyme Studies With Photosynthetic Organisms With Special Reference to Blue-Green Algae.

Hexose formiiation during photosynthesis has been presumed to occur by means of the reductive pentose phosphate cycle (3). An integral part of this cycle is the condensation of two molecules of triosephosphate to yieldl fructose-1,6-diphosphate (FDP) in a reaction catalyzed by aldolase. In support of aldolase participating in photosynthesis, Tewfik and Stumpf (35) showed that aldolase was prese...

Two regulatory networks mediated by light and glucose involved in glycolytic gene expression in cyanobacteria.

Fructose 1,6-bisphosphate aldolase (FBA) is an enzyme involved in both glycolytic and photosynthetic reactions in photosynthetic organisms. In prokaryotes, the bidirectional reaction proceeds in the same cellular compartment, i.e. the cytoplasm. Expression of the FBA gene, fbaA, is induced through two independent pathways, stimulated by continuous light and by glucose plus pulsed light (GPL), i...

Genetic engineering of the Calvin cycle toward enhanced photosynthetic CO2 fixation in microalgae

BACKGROUND Photosynthetic microalgae are emerging as potential biomass feedstock for sustainable production of biofuels and value-added bioproducts. CO2 biomitigation through these organisms is considered as an eco-friendly and promising alternative to the existing carbon sequestration methods. Nonetheless, the inherent relatively low photosynthetic capacity of microalgae has hampered the pract...

Increased fructose 1,6-bisphosphate aldolase in plastids enhances growth and photosynthesis of tobacco plants.

The Calvin cycle is the initial pathway of photosynthetic carbon fixation, and several of its reaction steps are suggested to exert rate-limiting influence on the growth of higher plants. Plastid fructose 1,6-bisphosphate aldolase (aldolase, EC 4.1.2.13) is one of the nonregulated enzymes comprising the Calvin cycle and is predicted to have the potential to control photosynthetic carbon flux th...

BACTERIAL ETIOLOGIES AND ANTIBIOTIC RESISTANCE IN SINUSITIS: A STUDY OF 264 CASES

Although inflammatory processes involving facial sinuses rarely develop during childhood, these antrums due to their anatomic situations are exposed to a variety of biologic and nonbiologic agents after birth. Many types of bacteria are able to initiate inflammatory responses in these antrums. Since effective management of these patients rests upon demonstration of a specific pathogen and ...
